Updates on the club
It's been another bad year for planting crops and cover. We did get most of the crops planted but lost some to the heavy rains. It was so wet this spring we never got our sunflowers planted for dove hunting. Sorry guysw and gals but there will be no dove hunting this fall. Hope next year is better. We are still trying to get as much bird cover planted as we can but the wet weather is making it a challenge.
On a positive note we did get the pond in the picnic grove restocked with some fish. We had a complete winter kill in the winter of 08/09 but the local hatchery worked with us to try and get the best combination of fish we can to maintain the health of the pond and so far it looks like there will be some nice fishing in the pond. We would like to thank everyone who donated to help cover the cost of restocking. Your response when we asked was far beyond what we had expected. Once again you proved we have the best members around.
Our annual picnic will will be held on Saturday, August 14 for all our members and family. If you don't get a picnic notice with the summer letter check to see if you paid your dues. We hope to see you all there
Is Rover Ready For Season?
I know you have all heard this from us before, but I am going to say it again. The problems with out of control dogs still exists but it is getting better. Most clubs are pay on release meaning you pay for your birds BEFORE you go out hunting. Say you want to shoot 10 birds you pay them for 10 birds and if you only shoot 2 they don't care they were paid for all 10. We are not set up that way. We don't care if you shoot 2 or 20 you come out and hunt till you have the birds you want. If a dog runs around busting birds it hurts everyone. Every time a bird flies off the property thats 1 less we get paid for. The more birds that we don't get paid for the more we have to charge for the ones that do get shot. If you have dog problems let us know and we will try to help you fix them and thanks to all of you who have taken care of any dog roblems you have had.
Is your shooting a little rusty?
I bet some of you didn't practice your shooting much over the summer (I'm guilty too). Want to get a little practice before season? Come on out and try our new target thrower. We did our homework before buying one looking for one that could simulate hunting shots and I think we did pretty well with the thrower we have. It can be set stationary for new shooters just learning or set to move between targets to keep you on your toes. Its a great way to get some practice in and have a little fun before season. We shoot right outside the clubhouse over the hay field so we can do it anytime you would like to. Just give us a call if you would like to come out and try it.
Letter from a guest about his experience at our club
Skip and Family,
Just wanted to say thank you again for a great hunting experience! As an
out of stater, y'all made me feel right at home and that was
appreciated. It was my first pheasant hunt with a guide and dog. Wow!
What a difference it made. Skip put us in great position to make shots.
Elrod was incredible to watch work. We had good shots at every bird we
saw. Awesome fun! I can't wait for my next trip!
Sincerely,
Dustin Hoffman
